The July 21 meeting will be of interest to lots of people for two reasons:

Tyler Sibley and Brandon Youngblood will be presenting about their experiences flying UAVs

The reminder of the fund raiser raffle tickets will be handed out prior to having to mail the unclaimed ones.

When we got the tickets early, we decided the Chapter could save some $$ by not having to mail as many tickets as we would have to mail if we mailed out all but what was handed out at the June meeting. So, the July meeting is critical to minimizing the cost of mailing tickets to members who didn’t attend either the June or the July meeting.

This, in effect, means that if you haven’t received your raffle tickets yet, PLEASE attend the July 21 meeting so we don’t have to mail them to you. This also means PLEASE contact every chapter member you know who isn’t on the Yahoo Group list or Board of Directors and ask them

to come to the July meeting, or

to let you pick up their tickets and deliver the tickets to them if they can’t attend the July 21 meeting.

We need to get going on a major raffle ticket sale project NOW if the fundraiser is to be a success.

Chapter 25 is in the middle of its annual Fundraiser and we need your help. Along with the issuing of 60 tickets to each member of Chapter 25, the board has also decided to sell tickets at various fly-ins.

Selling raffle tickets at fly-ins is not a new fundraising approach for our chapter. This approach was very successful in 2000 and 2001 to raise money to pay-off the hangar mortgage. This year because of the added cost of upgrading the hangar for year around activities (insulation, plywood on walls, painting, heating) the board has decided that the fly-in tickets sales will help to continue with our scholarship, young Eagle and hangar maintenance program(s).

We are asking each of our members to consider helping with the ticket sales at the following fly-ins. Ask someone from the chapter to join you at one of the following fly-ins. I will secure approval at those fly-ins where we have members signed-up. Contact me, Ed Hansen at 612-578-5449, or any of the board members to provide you with the tickets, cash box and Fundraiser sign. Remember, all of the fly-ins are in the A.M. so you would only be committing ½ day…….and besides it’s a lot of fun and you would be helping your chapter maintain its programs.

The following dates are available for coverage:

July 3rd Austin
July 11th Grantsburg, WI
August 8th Red Wing
August 14th Fleming Field
August 21st Forest Lake
August 28th Glencoe
September 11th Osceola
September 12th Fleming Field

More fly-in locations will be added as they become available.

The month of May has been the best Young Eagles month we’ve had that I can remember. We first flew 33 kids on the regular YE 3rd Saturday, then on the 29th at Red Wing, we set a Chapter 25 record for number of Young Eagles flow at one event.

Thanks to Bill Brown’s communications and organizing, we were invited to fly Young Eagles at the Red Wing Veterans’ Day event at KRGK. Bill’s arrangements with the folks there provided for a shade canopy as well as chairs and tables for our registration area. With six pilots (Jon Cumpton, John Schmidt, Bob Foster, Paul Pankratz, Mike Schoen, and Joel Ludwigson) plus a good ground crew (Bill Brown, Kris Olson, Ron , Paul Brown, Dave Olson, Bob Dunst, and myself) we managed to get rides for 93 kids in one day! The responses from the kids were all positive, and the pilots did a wonderful job of acquainting them with their airplanes and the processes of flying from RGK. The folks that put this event on have also invited us back next year to do it again.

I’m sure our YE numbers for this year will be the highest I’ve seen since I started working with Young Eagles following Mike Dolan’s ten year experience of coordinating the process. We also have a Boy Scout troop scheduled for the July YE event.
