KARE TV (Ch 11) ‘s Boyd Huppert did a nice job of explaining the G-4 glider construction project. You’ll see several of the folks working on the project, including Dale Johnson.

November Meeting Update

The next Chapter 25 meeting is November 17th, Wednesday, at 7PM. We won’t be cooking brats this month due to location.

Dale Johnson will be conducting a discussion and tour of the WWII CG-4 combat glider that is under construction by him and several others. You can view a few photos of the CG-4 project from 2009 to get a sense of the amazing scope this project. Also present will be members of the soaring club.

Location is Villaume Industries Inc., building #2 in the back of the lot

2926 Lone Oak Circle, Eagan, MN 55121

View a map and get directions

When you enter the Circle, Villaume is ahead and to the right. Turn right and proceed to the far back of Bldg 2.

If several members can carpool, it will relieve “parking stress” in a limited area.

New Plane at BSAEC

Next time you come to BSAEC, take a look at Keith Rhode’s beautifully polished Sonex wings. We’ll see this airplane being re-assembled soon and hopefully doing some test flying from LVN. With two planes at BSAEC, we can truthfully say the place is being well used as a hangar, and the Chapter benefits from the monthly donations of the owners.

Dale Johnson’s Waco CG-4A Cargo Glider Project

Dale Johnson and others are building -rebuilding -two CG4 gliders. They currently have parts for about 3 1/2 gliders. The project is in a warehouse in Eagan off of Lone Oak Road. Dale is building ribs and tail feather in his shop at home. If you are interested in more information call Dale at 952 890 3905.

Pat Hoyt Discusses Zenith Project at March 19th Meeting

Pat Hoyt is in the process of building a Zenith Zenair 601. At our March meeting, Pat talked about his project. Pat tells us, ” Here’s a picture of the tail section. I’ve got a bit more done since the picture was taken. Construction started in November 2006 when I planned a family vacation around a Rudder Workshop hosted by Zenith Aircraft in Mexico, Missouri. Prior to that, I’d done a fair amount of research to determine exactly what I wanted. This research included getting my Private Pilot License, and flying a number of different aircraft before choosing the Zodiac XL.I am converting a 1967 Corvair engine for this aircraft. The Corvair (which has been powering Pietenpols for over 40 years) is a popular engine choice for the Zodiac 601.

This is my first aircraft project. Wife won’t let me start another one until I finish this one…”

Pat has done extensive rebuilding of his Corvair engine, and has a well – documented photographic record of the entire project. Pat is also interested in sharing his experience with other builders. Contact him at pwhoyt@yahoo.com for more information.

Gusty Now Flies In Chapter Hangar

Joining Bert Sisler’s model of the Six Pac, our venerable historic aircraft the Gusty now is flying just below the ceiling of our Chapter Hangar at Airlake. Thanks to a volunteer crew assisting Dale Johnson — Ron Hoyt, Steve Adkins, Bert Sisler and Jim Ladwig — the Gusty took to the air last week. We know Bert was especially pleased that this “flight” did not require a test pilot, as we had threatened him with when he led the crew to reassemble the airplane. Join us for our Chili Feed on March 8th and get a chance to see the new display!
